In Tamil Language this herb is called as Keezha Nelli(Binomial Name: Phyllanthus Amarus or Phyllanthus Niruri) and it is called stonebreaker or seed-under-leaf in English. It is an important plant in Siddha Medical System and it has been used as a best Siddha medicine for jaundice for the past 2000 years. It has attracted the attention of researchers around the world due to its hepato-protective (liver-protecting) properties. It is also used for other Siddha medicinal preparation to treat problems related to the stomach, Urinary system, kidney and spleen.


It is commonly found in Tamil Nadu in South India, as well as in the China, Peru, and other South American tropical regions. It has rich source of calcium and has other minerals such as iron, magnesium, copper, zinc, manganese, sodium, potassium, phosphorus and chromium. It also contains contain protein, lipid, ash, fiber and carbohydrate.
